Stockholmarna ska ha kontroll över informationen
Stockholm: 14 January 2010
Peter Krantz founder of Opengov.se (a registry of open government data in Sweden) has published a news item on his site about Swedish press coverage on Stockholm discussing opening up its data.
Peter comments,
”In a similar way as London has recently announced opening up data it now appears to be the case that Stockholm is on the road to open data. In a very encouraging article entitled Stockholm will have control over the information in the Swedish newspaper Dagbladet Lotta Edholm, group leader for the Liberal Party, writes the following:
Access to information is power. When the city of Stockholm starts to disseminate information and Stockholm citizens use it in more radically more effective ways than before, it means that we can build an entirely new relationship between the city and its citizens.
Too long has the evolution of technology been treated as a non-political issue with emphasis being put on how to make public administration more efficient. But information technology is highly political and raises questions about the relationship between a municipality and the Stockholm citizens which previously did not exist. The Internet makes it possible to fundamentally change political transparency for citizens in the city and influence policy and public affairs.
The focus is on public transparency, but the resulting effect can be that entrepreneurs may also be opportunities to share information in order as received.
Now it's just 290 municipalities left to reflect on how to move forward.”
